Pushing the limit in operating within confined spaces with small-scale soft robotics

Small-scale soft robotics has achieved some incredible achievements during the last decade. Microsystem manufacturing and medical applications have widely beneficed the recent advancements. Nevertheless, limits persist to reach confined spaces and to ensure a high dexterity in-situ. We have developed innovative small-scale soft robots based on two approaches: the miniaturization of continuum robots by combining actuation and the proposal of robots with characteristic sizes close to the manipulated objects fabricated by advanced processes. This talk will be once again a demonstration of the strong link and the entanglement of microrobotics with material sciences.
